Hodge podge

"bento box" "japanese lunch" obento bento

Left:  wok-fried asparagus, star-shaped hard-boiled egg, chicken nuggets, sauteed shrimp, BBQ sauce
Right:  coconut ginger rice (courtesy of A Taste of Thai)


This wasn't the most inspired bento ever.  Ah well.  Work is still killing me!

oh my god - please share how you managed a star shaped hard boiled egg. my father would go bonkers!! his birthday's coming up in a few days and this would be a perfect lunch snack!

No matter how many times I see it, your shaped eggs never fail to amaze me. Probably because it's not roundish anymore, I mean, I love my animal molds but you can still tell they're eggs. Your heart & star are so...un-eggy that it's like a little surprise when you finally reveal they're eggs :D

Thanks! The star egg is a hard one to get right...the egg has to be really big to fill out the points of the star. My husband thinks it is the weirdest thing ever. :)

Yummy looking bento!!! I love the shrimps they look big and juicy. I have a bad week at work but having a bento instead of work canteen food is doing my stomach a world of good!
Hopefully work will settle down for you and free up energy for bento creation.

You've inspired me to start making my own bento for lunch at work. Thankfully, your bento's are cute enough to be fun - but not as intimidating as some of those Japanese links! Thankyou very much - if it weren't for you, I'd not be eating nori in the shape of a giant robot with my rice today ;)
(Only one question - don't you find it annoying trying to cook such small portions of food for bento, or is it usually leftovers from the dinner the night before?)

Hee hee - I address this in my new site! But anyway, I solve the want-variety-but-don't-want-to-cook-mini-meals-every-day problem by using my freezer. In addition to ready-made stuff, I make big batches of bento food and freeze them into portions. I usually only need to stir-fry fresh veggies, etc. in the morning.
