bento with shrimp stirfry and roasted veggies

Left: shrimp stir-fry with broccoli and onions
Right: cherry tomatoes tossed in olive oil, salt, pepper, and basil; roasted baby zucchini; pasta elbows tossed in butter and parsley

Well, this certainly isn't a Totoro bento, but it is gluten-free, yeast-free, and yummy!  The stir-fry is seasoned with salt, pepper, a bit of chicken broth, and some Bragg's Liquid Aminos.  The elbows are made of brown rice (by Tinkyada).

For those of you not in the know, a yeast-free diet basically requires you to cut out any form of sugars/sweeteners (meaning fruit, sugar, artificial sweeteners, honey), foods that are broken down easily into simple sugars (potatoes, corn, carrots, etc.), vinegar or anything fermented or pickled (including tamari, soy sauce, most Asian sauces), all forms of alcohol (including sake and mirin), and more.  As we are gluten-free as well, there's not much left to work with!  I think we'd be a whole lot more frustrated if the diet didn't appear to actually be doing something.  And it is.  There are definitely changes afoot...much more pronounced than when the hubs was GF only.  If this is the answer, then the good news is that once his body has healed, the hubs can reintroduce all types of foods again -- including gluten! Keep yer fingers crossed.  :)
